Racial Healing Workshop at The Dance Complex, Cambridge MA

3:00 pm - 6:00 pm | The Dance Complex Cambridge

*This will be instead of regular bi-weekly Sunday AFY class.*

Come tap into ‘embodied racial knowing.’ Leslie Salmon Jones will lead Afro Flow Yoga forms, Katrina Browne will lead InterPlay forms focused on race, and Jeff Jones and guest artist Morley will provide musical blessings. Rather than just coming from our heads, we open our hearts and discover the deep wisdom of our bodies and souls on matters of racial identity, racism, white privilege, listening to the ancestors, and healing racial wounds in ourselves and in society. Movement, stories, yoga, singing, dance, witnessing, stillness, and being part of the “group body” can open pathways for moving forward with love and compassion for self and others.

Katrina Browne produced the documentary Traces of the Trade: A Story from the Deep North (PBS: 2008) – a family journey to reckon with her discovery that their Rhode Island ancestors were the largest slave-trading family in U.S. history. Katrina also leads InterPlay – a set of simple practices for sharing movement and stories to help reconnect body, mind, heart and spirit.

In connection with this workshop, there will be a screening of Traces on Friday July 22 at 7:00pm at First Church (UCC), 11 Garden St., Cambridge for those interested. More info www.tracesofthetrade.org

It is not necessary to attend the screening in order to come to the workshop, and vice versa.

Please register in advance: $25-$50 sliding scale (scholarships & work exchange available, please email info@tracesofthetrade.org)
